Marmalade only works because of all the support and help it receives from volunteers like you.
We need enthusiastic, friendly people who are passionate about addressing the world’s social and environmental issues.
Our volunteer steward role includes welcoming speakers and participants, ensuring rooms are set up and ready to go, taking responsibility for numbers in the room and fire evacuation should we need to.
Please note that Volunteer Stewards must be over 18 years of age.
What do Volunteer Stewards do?
Working with others as part of a friendly and helpful team, our Volunteer Stewards will:
Provide a friendly welcome and assist Marmalade speakers and participants, before, during and after their events.
Help keep the public areas and event venues tidy.
Work together to tidy up after the events.
Know the fire exits and evacuation procedures in case of emergency.
As well as all this…you get to participate in the event too!
What times are the shifts available?
We are looking for volunteers who can commit to helping for a minimum of three half days. Most shifts will be either morning (roughly 9.15 to 14.00) or afternoon (13.15 – 18.30) although there may be some evening shifts.
Stewards are asked to arrive 45 minutes before the start of an event, and finish about 30 minutes after it ends.
What support do volunteers get?
We aim to train and support our volunteers by offering you feedback and being available to answer any questions you have. All volunteers will need to be available for training which will take place on the morning of Monday4 April at the Old Fire Station in Oxford.
We will provide a meal voucher up to £6 per shift worked, and local travel expenses will be paid.
A more detailed list of the rights of volunteers and the support available is in our Volunteer Handbook. You will receive a copy of this before your first shift.
How do I volunteer?
Please email us at volunteer@marmalade.io if you would like to find out more about volunteering.
We’ll then arrange a time to meet up in person at the Old Fire Station to let you know more about Marmalade and to help you decide if you would like to volunteer. We suggest you do it early to have the best chance of attending the events you want!
Arts at the Old Fire Station is always interested in finding volunteers for other particular events and shows. If this is of interest to you please email volunteer@oldfirestation.org.uk.
